Sunrise and Sunset Times helps you check clear, location-based sun time information for everyday use. The site provides sunrise, sunset, solar noon, day length, and related sunlight data so you can understand how the day changes by date, season, and place.
How our sun times are calculated
Our calculations are based on astronomical methods that estimate the Sun’s apparent position for a specific date, time, and observer location. Using these position calculations, we determine when the Sun crosses the horizon for sunrise and sunset, when it reaches its highest point for solar noon, and how long daylight lasts on that local date.
- Sunrise and sunset: We calculate the times when the upper edge of the Sun appears to rise above or sink below the horizon, with standard atmospheric refraction considered.
- Solar noon and daylight: Solar noon is calculated from the Sun’s daily path across the sky, while day length is measured from sunrise to sunset for the selected location.
Where applicable, our astronomical calculations are powered by Astronomy Engine, an open-source astronomy library by Don Cross. Astronomy Engine is licensed under the MIT License. Copyright © 2019–2025 Don Cross.
Accuracy and practical limits
Sun time data is highly predictable, but real-world viewing conditions can still affect what you see:
- Atmospheric conditions: Temperature, pressure, humidity, and weather can slightly change how sunlight bends near the horizon, which may shift the visible sunrise or sunset by a small amount.
- Local horizon: Mountains, hills, trees, buildings, and ocean views can make the Sun appear earlier or later than the calculated flat-horizon time.
- Location and time zone: Results depend on the selected position, time zone, and daylight saving time rules. A nearby city or approximate location may not exactly match your specific viewing spot.
How we keep the data consistent
All daily values are calculated for the selected local date and location. Sunrise, sunset, solar noon, and day length are shown using the local time zone for that place, so the data remains consistent when comparing different dates, seasons, and regions.
